Overall Feedback: Our squad once again found ourselves eager for some Halloween fun. Attending Laurel’s House of Horror “Halfway to Halloween” event a few weeks back made us very hungry for haunt season to arrive. So we began searching for more Halloween type events and came across Bates Motel Escape Rooms. We had visited their haunted attraction, Bates Motel & Haunted Hayride, last fall and had an absolute blast. The haunted attraction possessed a lot of attention to detail in their attractions so we only expected the same for their escape rooms. Bates Motel offers FOUR 60 minute duration escape rooms: Bates Manor, The Tomb, Revenge of the Serial Killer and Countdown: 60 Seconds to Save the World! Group size for the rooms can range anywhere from 4 to 10 individuals. The cost is $30 per person, which is a great deal for a 60 minute escape room! On Saturday June 9th our squad participated in the Bates Manor Escape Room. There was a lucky group of seven of us who participated. The story behind the Bates Manor escape room is this, “The Bates Manor Escape Room is a highly detailed Victorian mansion with 4 rooms. Mr. Bates has left for a few hours and reportedly has millions in gold and cash stashed in his safe. Your team is a group of accomplished burglars that have knocked off mansions like this in the past. You are tasked with finding the clues, hidden doors and tools that will allow you to crack the safe. But, can you do it before the police are notified, or worse… if Mr. Bates comes home and catches you?”. Let us say that all four rooms were very well designed and put together. The attention to detail in each room made us feel as if we were really in a Victorian mansion. The Bates Manor escape room doesn’t really have a scare factor but you certainly get a thrill trying to race against the clock to escape! This particular escape room easily possessed at least 2-3 dozen different clues/puzzles that needed to be cracked in order to find Mr. Bates fortune. Bates Manor Escape Room did very well with making us actually dig and put our minds to work to solve the clues. We’ve done escape rooms in the past that are very centered around basic puzzles and constantly opening up locks… escaping the Bates Manor certainly isn’t that easy! A very nice touch to this escape room is how they incorporated all four rooms into the entire process of escaping. By that we mean, even once we made it to the last room we were still going back to previous rooms for clues and information to help us try and crack the final room. Unfortunately we weren’t quite as “accomplished burglars” as we might’ve thought. Our squad got tangled up on the last two clues and just didn’t quite make it out. Fortunately Mr. Bates let us have a free pass this time around. At the completion of your Escape Room there is a nice facade that you can get a group picture at. They even have fun little signs you can hold with sayings like “”My Brain Hurts”, “PuzzleMaster”, “So Close”, “We Made It”, “I’m With Stupid”, etc. After we finished our Escape Room our squad chatted briefly together in the large lobby area about our experience. There were three common themes in our discussion… fun, thrilling and lets come back again! The folks at Bates Motel Escape Rooms certainly know how to put together a fun and thrilling experience so get a group together and go pay them a visit!
