Overall Feedback: On Saturday October 3rd, night two of our Ohio Haunt Tour, we had the opportunity to visit Factory of Terror in Canton Ohio. We had already visited two other haunted attractions (Akron Haunted Schoolhouse & Fortress of Fear) prior to ending our evening at Factory of Terror. We’ve hit three haunted attractions in one evening once before and we clearly forgot how exhausting it was! We arrived at Factory of Terror shortly before 11pm, and this place was booming with business! The wait was easily an hour or more. Fortunately we had already purchased tickets online, so we were able to bypass the ticket booth and jump right into line. The midway area of Factory of Terror primarily consists of Thirsty Tim’s Mobile Bar and a food truck serving up your favorite fair style foods. Besides the food offerings not much else was available for guests in the midway area.

Unfortunately due to covid protocols Factory of Terror is only offering three of their five attractions per evening. On Saturday’s they have Industrial Nightmare, Lafayette 13, and Massacre on Mahoning as the three open attractions. 1300 Lost Souls, Lafayette 13, and House of Nightmares are the three Friday attractions for 2020. Tickets are $25 for 2020, which is still a great value for three full length attractions! Fast pass admission is available for an additional $12, which may be something haunt goers want to snag to avoid the lengthy lines at Factory of Terror. We definitely encourage purchasing tickets in advance online as Factory of Terror will most likely sell out, especially during the upcoming “prime” weekends. Covid protocol wise Factory of Terror had tons of signage reminding guests to maintain social distancing and to wear face coverings. Hand sanitizer was located throughout the property and attractions. Staff encouraged guests to sanitize their hands before and after each attraction. Scare actors also wore face coverings and were not as hands on and up close and personal as they typically would be.

After waiting around 45 minutes it was closing in on midnight and we were eager to experience the Factory of Terror. As we headed to the first attraction of the evening we bypassed numerous massive animatronics that made for countless photo worthy moments. Eventually after oohing and aahing over the various animatronics we reached the entrance to our first of three attractions. The first attraction of the evening we believe was Industrial Nightmare. “Industrial Nightmare showcases and brings to life dangerous details from the original factory, while taking you to a time in history that cared very little about safety and security. It is Industrial Nightmare that truly reflects the industrialism and terror that makes this haunt so unique.”. Second up was Lafayette 13, “Make your way through this nightmare on the bayou as the swamp begins to overtake the area, creating horrific creatures that lurk throughout.”. To round out the evening was Massacre on Mahoning, “Why is there a mansion in the middle of a factory? As the story goes, the aluminum foundry was unable to turn a profit. Convinced that the workers were to blame for his losses, the owner, Mr. Winters, decided to build a house in the middle of the production line. His constant presence was remarkably effective until his mind became fragile due to the dark, desolate environment. Using the factory’s own tools and equipment, Mr. Winters went on a random killing spree before adding his personal cemetery inside the walls of his factory mansion.”.

Our journey through Industrial Nightmare possessed incredibly life-like and detailed scenes. We felt fully immersed in the factory environment, except with a horrific twist. An overwhelming amount of special effects were utilized to help maintain an intense and thrilling experience. One portion of the attraction featured intense audio effects coupled with dense fog, disorienting our squad members leaving us more vulnerable to startles! Lafayette 13 featured the same exquisite set design, leaving us in awe scene after scene. Be prepared to encounter all sorts of swamp creatures, spiders, bees, and more during your journey. We were thoroughly impressed with the set design in the beehive scene and the swamp/bayou. We felt fully immersed into a creepy swamp as we were waist deep in murky waters, fearing the creatures that were lurking below. Prior to experiencing the final attraction guests will pass by the Forsaken Bar on Bourbon, giving you an opportunity to snag an alcoholic beverage and regroup before mustering up the courage for the final attraction. Lastly we entered the Massacre on Mahoning, an elegant but terrifying mansion. More alluring set work was encountered as we were impressed once again with the attention to detail. By far our favorite part of Massacre on Mahoning was the massive and quite simply breathtaking cemetery scene. We felt like we had legitimately been dropped into a real cemetery. From the audio and visual effects to the spooktacular animatronics, this graveyard had enough eye candy to please even the most veteran haunt goers.

Throughout our journey our biggest gripe was the inconsistency in the scare actors. Some of these folks were extremely energized, delivering top notch performances and spine-tingling startles. While others seemed checked out for the evening as they lifelessly looked on as we passed by. We’re sure these folks were exhausted as they had easily been working non-stop for going on 5+ hours at this point. But in our opinion, the first guests of the evening and the last guests of the evening deserve the same exact performance and energy. Costuming and makeup was first-class, incredibly realistic, and helped tie together the scenes. In areas where the scare actors were energized and passionate the haunt really had an intense and menacing atmosphere. But as soon as we encountered lackluster scare actors our experience tanked, removing us from the thrilling atmosphere. Fortunately the set designs were flawless, leaving us plenty to take in, along with ample amounts of animatronics to help beef up the scare/thrill factor!

After exiting the final attraction guests will pass by a few more photo-op spots along with the Factory of Terror merchandise shop. Our squad reconvened in the parking lot to toss around our thoughts on the experience. We were impressed with the high quality set work, abundance of high-grade animatronics, and intense special effects. The real major letup of the evening was the inconsistency in scare actors, which left our squad with mixed emotions on the overall experience. We chalked it up to it being a late night and potentially just an overall off night for the Factory of Terror team. Several of our members had visited the Factory of Terror years prior to our recent visit and they were blown away by the experience, and the intense scare actors. This left us feeling more and more certain that we had just caught these folks on a rare “off” night. All in all, the Factory of Terror provides an aesthetically pleasing, exhilarating, and spooky fun experience that is sure to please the average haunt goer! We have no doubts that these folks typically provide a killer experience and look forward to visiting them in the future when they are back to full speed!
