Entertainment Value — 9/10
The entertainment begins well before you enter the haunt! Laurel's indoor queue is an experience in itself, featuring a spectacular light show choreographed to booming music that gets the adrenaline pumping. Add roaming characters, lively interactions, and the occasional jaw-dropping performance from Ariel Von Quinn, and waiting in line becomes part of the fun!

They also offer themed escape rooms, including Escape the Movies and Escape Beetlejuice.
Costume & Makeup — 10/10!
HOLY HORROR HOLLYWOOD! This crew looks like they walked straight off a movie set! Laurel's delivers some of the BEST costuming and makeup we've encountered, earning a well-deserved perfect score from our squad!
Detailed airbrush work, remarkable prosthetics, creative masks, and scene-specific costumes bring these characters to life. Nothing feels randomly thrown together; every look complements its environment and helps tell the story.
One particularly unforgettable creation featured a bizarre headpiece adorned with pill vials, lightbulbs, and tubing, perfectly suited to its twisted medical setting. Elsewhere, a roaming character sported a smoking mask, while the Carlisle Hotel's bellhop rules attendant had an actual bell mounted atop her head that she could ring. Talk about ingenious character design!
Cast & Crew — 8.8/10
Laurel's has assembled an incredibly colorful cast of characters, with plenty of familiar faces and fresh nightmares keeping the experience lively!
Some of the strongest performances came from actors who embraced dialogue and interaction. The Carlisle Hotel sequence was particularly entertaining, with multiple bellhops appearing from different directions and delivering excellent performances. Elsewhere, a deranged cafeteria worker offered guests some rather questionable snacks… anyone hungry for flies?
The cast also knows how to work a scene! A newly designed winding corridor gave actors opportunities to sneak around corners, stalk guests, and strike from unexpected directions.
While many performers were outstanding, some relied heavily on quick pop-out scares before resetting. More consistent dialogue, improvisation, and character-driven interactions throughout would elevate the experience even further.
Set Design & Special Effects — 9.1/10
The curtain rises… and the nightmares come ALIVE! Laurel's has made an impressive number of improvements for 2026, introducing numerous new and enhanced scenes that breathe fresh terror into its already remarkable production.
One standout addition is a long medical corridor lined with shelves of pill vials, inhabited by a character wearing an outrageously detailed, illuminated headpiece. This transitions into another lengthy, winding passageway where clever sightlines and roaming actors create plenty of opportunities for unexpected encounters.
Then there's the legendary main theater scene, which remains one of our all-time favorites! A demonic transformation has overtaken the auditorium, complete with fallen chandeliers, eerie projections, Phantom of the Opera music, lurking creatures, and a suspended, mutilated figure that guests must pass directly through. It's theatrical horror at its finest, and we hope this iconic scene never disappears!
The Carlisle Hotel also delivers a fantastic combination of detailed scenery and interactive performances, while the new finale unleashes a massive devilish animatronic, sinister characters, and a performer looming overhead, desperately reaching toward unsuspecting guests. A new Bloody Mary sequence adds another wicked surprise.
Throughout the experience, the audio and lighting are absolutely phenomenal. Thunderous soundtracks, precisely timed effects, and elaborate lighting transform each environment into its own mini-production.
Fright & Thrill Factor — 8.4/10
Laurel's House of Horror isn't necessarily the most terrifying attraction we've encountered, but here's the thing… it doesn't need to be!
This place thrives on atmosphere, anticipation, and theatrical entertainment, delivering a spooky good time with plenty of legitimate scares mixed in.
Cleverly concealed characters, sudden appearances, intense audio, and strategically timed effects keep guests alert. The winding corridors and newly enhanced scenes provide excellent opportunities for actors to stalk their victims, while the theater's larger set pieces create an unsettling sense of spectacle.
There's also something uniquely creepy about being inside an old movie theater, where the distinction between stage performance and living nightmare becomes increasingly blurred.
The scares are effective, but the real magic lies in how Laurel's combines them with humor, theatrics, and larger-than-life personalities.
Come for the screams. Stay for the spectacle. Leave with a grin… and maybe a little trauma!
🔧 Sharpening the Scare
Even a horror blockbuster can benefit from a few director's notes! Laurel's continues to deliver an outstanding production, with a few opportunities to make the experience even stronger.
More character-driven interactions: While several performers excelled at dialogue and improvisation, others relied primarily on quick startle scares. More consistent character engagement and occasional skits would help maintain the theatrical energy throughout.
Improve group spacing: Despite relatively steady Sunday evening attendance, groups frequently caught up with one another, creating occasional conga lines. Allowing additional spacing between groups would help preserve surprises and immersion.
Bring back the Monster Release: The 2025 Capital Purge event featured an EPIC monster release that energized both the cast and guests. We'd LOVE to see this theatrical kickoff return!
Explore expansion opportunities: Laurel's leaves us wanting MORE! If space and logistics ever permit, a second full-scale attraction would be an exciting addition to an already impressive destination.
Consider character-specific merchandise: With so many beloved, longstanding characters, dedicated character T-shirts or collectibles could be a fun addition for loyal fans.
🏆 Fright Night MVPs
🔪 Michael Myers — The Silent Stalker
Never underestimate the Shape! Michael appeared EVERYWHERE: inside the haunt, near the exit, in the merchandise area, and outside by the queue. His stealthy movements, perfectly executed slow walk, intimidating stare, and agonizing knife drag along the walls made him a constant, unpredictable menace. This guy has the art of silent terror DOWN!
🎤 Late Nights with Lionel — The Horror Comedian
Who knew nightmares could be so hilarious? Lionel's sarcastic, slightly spicy personality provided a welcome comedic break from the chaos. His quick wit and entertaining interactions kept us laughing between screams!
💃 Ariel Von Quinn — The Queen of the Queue
Glamour, attitude, and an absolutely KILLER performance! Ariel knows how to command a crowd, including her nightly dance routine on the indoor queue stage. When she launched into the air and landed in a full split, the audience was left in disbelief. Now THAT'S entertainment!
👻 The Familiar Faces & Twisted Newcomers
Jebediah seemed to appear everywhere, making sure everyone remembered his name, while Ms. Laurel continued to bring her signature presence to the experience. Austin remains a favorite whose unpredictable shenanigans we look forward to each visit. Special recognition also goes to the illuminated laboratory creature and the cafeteria worker offering her delightfully disgusting fly snacks!
💀 Final Thoughts
Laurel's House of Horror is the epitome of a SPOOKY GOOD TIME!
From its flawless costuming and makeup to its electrifying queue entertainment, incredible sound design, and constantly evolving scenes, Laurel's continues to raise the curtain on something special.
What truly sets this attraction apart is its personality. It's theatrical, energetic, occasionally hilarious, and packed with the kind of creativity that makes you want to come back again and again.
And with the remarkable number of improvements made for 2026, it's clear this team isn't content with simply repeating last year's show.
Laurel's may not deliver the most relentless scares, but few haunts can match its combination of production quality, personality, and pure entertainment!
The curtain may fall, but the nightmares keep coming… and we'll ALWAYS be back for an encore! 🎭🔪
