Overall Rating: 8.25/10
Madhaunter’s is pure energy from start to finish, fueled by its wild opening ceremony, roaming midway characters, and the unforgettable Madhaunter himself. The atmosphere is festive and fun—part haunted attraction, part Halloween party—and the cast’s commitment is what carries the night. Madhaunter’s shines in its personality, crowd engagement, and sheer entertainment value. If you’re looking for a haunt that blends scares with spectacle, this is it.
Entertainment Value: 9/10
Madhaunter’s midway is one of the liveliest we’ve seen: roaming characters, pyrotechnics, fireworks, lawn games, food trucks, concessions, beer tent, merch, and even movies on a big screen give it a “Halloween festival” feel. Arrive before 7:15pm to catch their epic pre-show/monster release, lead by none other than Thee Madhaunter, complete with music, fire, and fireworks—it’s a highlight you don’t want to miss!
Ticketing uses a color-coded system to pace groups, encouraging guests to relax and enjoy the midway before entering the haunt. The only frustration comes at the end: the trail abruptly dumps you directly into the parking lot, meaning guests can’t re-enter the midway for merch or snacks. A re-entry option (or at least clear signage beforehand) would prevent disappointed haunt goers.
Costume & Makeup: 8.25/10
Makeup and costuming were strong overall, particularly the iconic Madhaunter and the roaming midway creeps. Trail characters ranged from creepy clowns to satanic priests to ghouls weaving on all fours. While not the most elaborate designs we’ve seen, they fit the atmosphere and were effective in enhancing each scene.
Cast & Crew: 8.5/10
The cast is the heartbeat of Madhaunter’s. From Mama’s witty one-liners on the trail to the little clown girl who proved small but mighty, the actors gave it their all. Roaming midway characters were consistently engaging, and inside the haunt we found a good mix of humor, creepiness, and energy. Kudos to the slim redneck fella wielding a chainsaw in the early stages of the trail—his energy was relentless & really gave us an exhilarating jolt!
Still, some areas of the trail felt light on actors, creating brief lulls. A few more strategically placed performers would keep the scares flowing and the engagement lively.
Set Design & Special Effects: 8/10
Madhaunter’s leans into an old-school haunted trail vibe: eerie cemeteries, ominous churches, carnival sections, and wooded paths rather than high-end animatronics or detailed set builds. Highlights included the beautifully lit cemetery, the satanic church with “Satan” walking across pews, and the clever “net ceiling drop” scare.
That said, the PreCURSEr attraction could benefit from some TLC. Currently, it’s essentially a tarp/panel maze with minimal action—a tame experience compared to the upbeat energy of the midway. Sets along the trail could also benefit from stronger lighting and more in-scene audio to build atmosphere—much like the cemetery scene, which featured immersive audio effects & impressive lighting.
Fright & Thrill Factor: 7.5/10
Scares here are more about fun and energy than all-out terror. The Madhaunter himself is an absolute force of CHAOS, constantly interacting and entertaining. Quick scares included actors scurrying on all fours, chainsaw chases, and jump-outs from all angles.
However, many scares were straightforward and sometimes a bit predictable. The panel maze in PreCURSEr especially lacked tension, and a few open stretches of the trail left us wanting more. Still, the overall vibe—helped by music choices like “Werewolves of London”—kept the thrill alive.
Fright Night MVP:
The Madhaunter himself! No surprise here—this character is the heart and soul of the haunt. Engaging, relentless, creepy yet hilarious, and always in character, he brings a contagious energy that sets the tone for everything. Honorable mentions to the Madhaunter’s Wife, Slash, “Mama”, and the little clown girl for their memorable performances.
Sharpening the Scare:
PreCURSEr Enhancements: Right now, this attraction feels more like a holding maze than a true experience. Guests mentioned waiting nearly an hour for it (now granted, it was an insanely busy night), which creates big expectations. Adding layered theming (creepy props, wall textures, sound effects), more interactive characters, or even a loose storyline would transform it from “filler” into a feature. Consider tightening group sizes and stationing actors in key spots so every group has multiple interactions instead of long stretches of blank panels.
Trail Actor Placement: While the cast that was present did a great job, some stretches of the trail felt light on characters. The woods naturally create downtime, so positioning more actors in those gaps—or using roaming spooks who can cover larger areas—would keep energy consistent. Even 2–3 additional well-placed actors could make the difference between “quiet downtime” and “constant suspense.” Nothing creepier than the strategically placed ghillie suit character.
Set & Audio Upgrades: The cemetery and satanic church scenes showed how much atmosphere can be elevated with great lighting and audio. Expanding this approach throughout more of the trail would make the sets feel more immersive. Simple additions like ambient whispers, echoing footsteps, or flickering lanterns can make sparsely decorated sections feel full.
Midway Exit Flow: Ending the trail directly into the parking lot cuts off the guest experience abruptly—and it prevents people from revisiting merch, concessions, or photo ops. A split-path option (midway return vs. exit) or a designed re-entry point would encourage more sales and give guests a smoother finale. At the very least, signage at the queue warning that re-entry isn’t allowed would help manage expectations (there might’ve been one & we may have missed it).
Merch Expansion & Accessibility: Fans are clamoring for more merch—beanies, mugs, alternate shirt colors, and updated designs. Right now, combining the merch booth with alcohol sales makes browsing awkward. Giving merch its own dedicated space would not only streamline sales but also help promote it as a core part of the brand.
Photo Op Improvements: The haunt has plenty of fun spots for photos, but lighting is often too dim for phones to capture quality shots. Adding directed spotlights or LED accents would solve this.
Recap the Screams:
Madhaunter’s Madhouse thrives on personality. It’s not the scariest haunt you’ll find, but it’s one of the most entertaining. Between the explosive pre-show, the festival-like midway, and the chaotic charm of the Madhaunter himself, this place knows how to create an unforgettable night out.
Yes, some sets are simple, and the PreCURSEr attraction could benefit from some upgrades—but the energy, engagement, and festive Halloween spirit make it a true standout. For haunt-goers who love atmosphere, interaction, and a haunt that doesn’t take itself too seriously, Madhaunter’s delivers in spades.
