Overall Feedback: On their final night of operation for the 2019 season, Pennhurst Asylum once again opened their doors but this time with the show lights OFF! On Sunday November 3rd we revisited Pennhurst Asylum for what was our 2nd time of the season, but this go around was to experience their BLACKOUT night. We attended this event in the 2018 season and were impressed with the intense nature of the BLACKOUT experience.

Since we visited Pennhurst Asylum earlier in the season we don’t plan to right a full review on our BLACKOUT experience. We encourage our readers to visit our website to read our full review writeup from our visit in September 2019 (https://www.frightreviewsquad.com/blog/2019/09/28/pennhurst-asylum-2019-review).

Last season our squad was thoroughly impressed with the intense nature of Pennhurst Asylum’s BLACKOUT event. The actors were hands on - locking us in cages, engaging in pillow fights and physically picked up one of our members and carrier him away. Many of the sets featured pure DARKNESS, leaving us to use our puny glow stick to guide us through. Several props and actors squirted us with ice cold liquids which provided quite the startle. We even recall being shocked in one scene and hit with what we believe was tuna in another scene. The 2018 BLACKOUT experience was definitely an epic one.

After such a thrilling experience in 2018, our squad expected the same frightening experience in 2019. Although overall the experience seemed less intense then in 2018, our squad still had a spooky fun and thrilling experience. As always, the scare actors were hands on and extremely engaging with our group. We were impressed with the level of DARKNESS this season. Some areas were literally PITCH BLACK with not even a hint of light. The DARKNESS was most impressive in Containment, as it just flat out enhanced the eeriness of the attraction! Our group slowly meandered through the DARK passageways in Containment praying that we’d eventually find our way out. And just when we thought our eyes had adjusted to the dark, cue a BRIGHT flash of light to disorient us. Our group certainly isn’t complaining about the lack of the mystery tuna this season; that is one component we can do without (LOL)! Yet again more ice cold liquids were encountered when we least expected them. One of our members, Stephanie, was the victim of a drive by puking; as a scare actor spilled his beans down the back of her hoodie!

Overall, as always, we had yet again another memorable and spooky fun experience at Pennhurst Asylum. Lights ON or lights OFF, Pennhurst Asylum always brings their A game and provides a spooky fun experience! If you love Pennhurst Asylum with the show lights on then you’ll certainly love their even more thrilling BLACKOUT experience! Give this haunt a visit in 2020, you won’t be disappointed!
