Milltown Haunt — Lovettsville, VA
Overall Rating — 9.08/10
Milltown Haunt didn't just raise the bar in 2026—they sent it screaming into the cornfield! From a dramatically revamped Trickster's Hollow to fresh frights throughout the Thorne House and Barn of Fears, Milltown came out swinging this season! But while the upgrades are impressive, the real magic lies in the monsters.
With some of the most talented, entertaining, and downright lovable characters in the haunt industry, Milltown delivers an experience that's equal parts frightening, hilarious, and unforgettable.
Owners Sarah and GG have built something special here. Their passion shines through every twisted corridor and creepy character, creating a place that feels less like visiting a haunted attraction and more like coming home to your favorite dysfunctional haunt family.
Milltown Haunt delivered one of its strongest seasons yet, proving that incredible actors, creative scares, and a whole lot of heart make for an unforgettable haunt experience!
Entertainment Value — 9.20/10
Milltown's midway is a monster-sized dose of entertainment all on its own! Between the photo ops, food vendors, One Family Brewing, fire pits, seating areas, and well-stocked merchandise booth, there's plenty to keep guests hanging around long after their last scream.
But the real midway madness comes courtesy of Hazard, Ditzy, Grandma Thorne, Screamy MeeMee, and their wonderfully unhinged companions. Their quick wit, outrageous antics, and seemingly endless bag of tricks make simply hanging around an absolute blast!
Be sure to check out the handmade merchandise, including creations from Ditzy and Screamy MeeMee, whose alter ego, Crystal Mills, even authored the children's book Gracie's Amazing Halloween Alphabet Adventure.
Milltown's midway is an attraction in itself, where larger-than-life characters and nonstop antics make the entertainment every bit as memorable as the haunts!
Costume & Makeup — 9.50/10
Milltown's monsters were looking mighty menacing this season! Impressive special effects makeup, detailed airbrushing, and thoughtfully crafted costumes brought a colorful collection of characters to life.
From the eerily convincing scarecrow to the bizarre new Boy Scout, affectionately dubbed the "Campground Creeper," these characters look every bit as memorable as they act. The spider-like creature contorting overhead was another visual nightmare worth celebrating!
From disturbingly realistic makeup to wildly imaginative characters, Milltown's monsters look every bit as incredible as they perform!
Cast & Crew — 9.70/10
If haunted attractions were judged solely on their cast, Milltown would be downright untouchable!
The roaming performers here are among the absolute best we've encountered, effortlessly blending scares, comedy, improvisation, and character work into one wildly entertaining experience.
Hazard, Ditzy, Grandma Thorne, and Screamy MeeMee are practically haunt royalty at this point, while additions like the scarecrow and the delightfully bizarre Boy Scout/Campground Creeper keep the midway madness fresh.
Inside the attractions, that same commitment shines. One particularly frantic character in the panel maze had us running in circles with endless cries of "This way! No, THAT way!" We were exhausted just watching him! 😂
What makes this crew exceptional isn't simply their ability to scare. It's their ability to connect, entertain, and make every guest feel part of the insanity.
Milltown boasts one of the most talented and entertaining casts we've encountered anywhere, bringing an unmatched level of personality, energy, and interaction to every corner of the haunt!
Set Design & Special Effects — 8.80/10
Milltown gave its attractions a serious shot of nightmare fuel for 2026!
The biggest glow-up belongs to Trickster's Hollow, which is now noticeably longer, more developed, and packed with fresh scenes and structures. The swamp sequence was a showstopper, featuring eerie lighting, atmospheric fog, and a gorgeous facade. Even the buffalo lurking in the corn made quite an impression!
The Thorne House and Barn of Fears also received substantial updates, including darker, more winding passages and new laboratory-inspired scenes replacing portions of last year's slaughterhouse pallet maze.
One of the night's coolest visuals was a spider-like creature twisting and crawling across an overhead net, complete with unsettling clicking sounds. Pure nightmare material!
The Void features attractive new 3D artwork, though its brief walkthrough still feels underdeveloped compared to the other attractions.
Milltown came out swinging in 2026, breathing new life into its attractions with creative scenes, impressive upgrades, and a completely reimagined cornfield experience!
Fright & Thrill Factor — 8.20/10
Milltown's brand of terror is delightfully unpredictable, blending traditional scares with bizarre characters, creepy encounters, and plenty of twisted humor.
The revamped Trickster's Hollow delivered a noticeable boost in atmosphere and intensity, with the swamp scene and several well-placed performers creating memorable frights. The overhead spider encounter was another wonderfully unsettling moment!
A few quieter stretches could benefit from additional actors or ambient sound to keep the tension simmering, but the cast's creativity helps ensure the scares never feel cookie-cutter. Milltown delivers a wickedly entertaining blend of frights, laughs, and unpredictable encounters that keeps guests screaming and smiling from start to finish!
Sharpening the Scare
Even the best nightmares have room to grow!
Rethink The Void: While the new 3D-painted panels are visually impressive and improve traffic flow, The Void remains the weakest link in an otherwise stellar lineup. Currently, it's essentially a 60-second walkthrough featuring colorful 3D artwork and a single actor, leaving it feeling more like a brief visual experience than a fully developed haunted attraction. We'd love to see Milltown take one of two directions: transform The Void into a full-fledged blackout attraction or reposition it as a bonus side attraction rather than marketing it alongside the main haunts. If returning to the blackout concept, consider significantly extending the experience with a single, defined path of travel, using textured walls, strategically placed obstacles, disorienting audio, and well-timed actor encounters to create a genuinely unnerving journey through the darkness. Alternatively, if keeping the 3D concept, additional actors, quirky sound effects, and interactive scares could give the experience more substance. The potential is there—it just needs more bite to stand alongside Milltown's killer lineup!
Turn up the atmosphere: More strategic ambient audio and sound effects throughout the attractions could strengthen immersion without sacrificing those intentionally eerie moments of silence.
Keep the corn crawling: Trickster's Hollow has improved tremendously! A few additional actors or atmospheric elements in quieter stretches would help sustain the suspense.
More monster merch: Milltown mugs, please! And how about a character shirt featuring Hazard, Ditzy, Grandma, and Screamy MeeMee?
Scares for a cause: Milltown's commitment to giving back is something we absolutely love! This season, they even hosted a First Responders Night to recognize and give back to their local heroes. We'd love to see that generosity extend into a season-long initiative, perhaps partnering with a local food bank and offering a small admission discount to guests who bring canned goods or other nonperishable donations.
Fright Night MVPs
The Midway Maniacs: Hazard, Ditzy, Grandma Thorne, and Screamy MeeMee continue to reign supreme! Their chemistry and endless antics are the stuff of haunt legend.
The Scarecrow: An incredibly convincing character who seemingly NEVER breaks character. One of our favorite scarecrows anywhere!
The Campground Creeper (Boy Scout): A fantastic new addition whose creepy costume and bizarre, hurried movements had us thoroughly entertained. Where's he going? Nobody knows, but apparently he's got somewhere to be! 😂
The Spider Creature: Crawling, twisting, and contorting overhead while making those creepy clicking sounds? Absolutely wicked!
The Panel Maze Madman: "This way! No, THAT way!" A hilariously committed performance that had us questioning our directions and our sanity!
The Trickster's Hollow Terrors: Shout-out to the performers throughout the cornfield who helped bring the newly revamped trail to life!
Final Thoughts
Some haunts have incredible sets. Others have terrifying monsters. Milltown has something even harder to find—heart.
The tremendous improvements for 2026 show just how dedicated Sarah, GG, and their team are to continually raising the bar. Trickster's Hollow has undergone a remarkable transformation, the houses feel refreshed, and the cast remains nothing short of phenomenal.
Sure, there are a few areas that could use some extra scares and atmosphere, but those are minor bumps along an otherwise spectacularly spooky ride.
What makes Milltown extraordinary is that its monsters don't just frighten you—they make you feel like family. It's a place where the laughter is just as memorable as the screams, and the people behind the masks are every bit as wonderful as the characters they portray.
And the fun doesn't necessarily end when Halloween is over! Milltown is known for hosting special off-season haunt events, so keep your eyes peeled for opportunities to reunite with your favorite characters and get your fright fix throughout the year.
Some haunts leave you screaming. Milltown leaves you smiling, screaming, and counting down the days until your next visit!
