The Final Bell Haunted Schoolhouse returns for another semester of sinister surprises, unhinged students, and terrifying teachers! Housed within an actual former school property, this Maryland haunt has an incredibly fitting backdrop for its twisted take on education.
Returning after an impressive visit last season, we were excited to see what new nightmares were lurking in the hallways. While this year's experience felt a little lighter on cast and overall energy, there's still plenty to appreciate, particularly the outstanding makeup, creative costumes, and effective use of lighting and sound.
The Final Bell has some seriously strong bones, and we're eager to see this haunted school continue growing into its full potential!
🎟️ Entertainment Value — 5.5/10
Sometimes the scariest part of school is what happens after the bell rings!
The Final Bell offers a relatively straightforward experience, with most of the entertainment concentrated inside the haunted walkthrough itself. Given its somewhat secluded location, we'd love to see more activities and atmosphere developed outside the attraction to encourage guests to linger.
A fun new photo opportunity near the entrance was a welcome addition! The illuminated LED signage adds a polished touch and makes for a great spot to capture some pre-scare memories. We were also happy to see the beginnings of a merchandise selection.
This season, the walkthrough is presented as two attractions, with a brief midway break separating the experiences. We learned this change was implemented to improve group spacing following the blackout maze, which makes sense operationally. However, the overall experience felt similar in length to last year's single walkthrough rather than two distinct attractions. There's plenty of opportunity to build out the surrounding experience and give guests more reasons to make the trip!
🎭 Costume & Makeup — 8.5/10

Costuming and makeup remain among The Final Bell's greatest strengths, with realistic character designs that help bring the school's sinister inhabitants to life.
One of the most visually impressive characters was the unforgettable Book Man, whose costume allowed him to blend into a bookshelf before springing to life. It was an incredibly clever design and easily one of the most unique costumes we've encountered this season!
The roaming teacher was another standout, sporting fantastic makeup and a delightfully unsettling appearance. Characters throughout the attraction featured detailed looks that complemented their environments and added authenticity to the experience. When it comes to creating memorable monsters, The Final Bell certainly knows how to do its homework!
👹 Cast & Crew — 7.75/10
The students might be unruly, but some of these performers are absolutely killing it! The opening teacher immediately sets the tone, climbing across desks and chairs, invading personal space, and delivering fantastic dialogue. She's exactly the kind of chaotic educator you'd never want supervising your classroom!
The basketball player was another highlight, practically bouncing off everything in sight while delivering energetic banter. The jocks brought some of the evening's most exhilarating interactions, proving that school spirit can be downright terrifying!
We also enjoyed the roaming teacher, whose entertaining interactions helped bring some personality to the exterior experience. The Book Man deserves another shoutout for pairing that remarkable costume with a lively performance.
Unfortunately, the cast felt noticeably thinner than during our previous visit in 2025. Most scenes appeared to feature only one performer, with several actors working multiple positions to maximize coverage. Their effort was appreciated, but some stretches lacked the energy and activity we remembered from last season. The talent is clearly here. Additional performers would help these characters shine without having to carry quite so much of the workload!
🏚️ Set Design & Special Effects — 8/10
When The Final Bell turns up the lights, sound, and atmosphere, it's downright impressive! The former school property provides a fantastic foundation for a haunted attraction, and the team makes good use of its existing environment.
Lighting and audio effects are particularly effective, enhancing scenes and creating well-timed startle scares. The blackout maze remains a standout, combining near-total darkness with unsettling, pulsating audio, strategically timed flashes, air cannons, and sudden noises.
The low, heartbeat-like vibrations throughout the blackout were especially effective, creating just the right amount of sensory disorientation without becoming overwhelming.
We're also still big fans of the prom queen scene! The musical transition midway through adds a clever theatrical touch that makes the sequence memorable.
While several environments are impressively executed, others could benefit from additional scenic dressing, props, and environmental clutter. Some rooms feel comparatively bare, and the storyline occasionally becomes disconnected as guests transition between school hallways, tunnels, and blackout sequences before returning to the school setting. Still, the foundation is strong, and the team's technical execution continues to impress!
😱 Fright & Thrill Factor — 7.5/10
Pop quiz: How well do you handle complete darkness and things that go BUMP in the night? 😱 The Final Bell knows how to make effective use of sensory scares, and the blackout maze is easily one of its strongest sequences.
Between the disorienting audio, strategically placed lighting effects, sudden air blasts, and unexpected surprises, this section keeps guests guessing about what might be lurking just beyond their reach.
The Book Man's surprise appearance from the bookshelf was another memorable moment, proving that a clever costume and well-executed reveal can deliver a serious jolt! The energetic basketball sequence also brought some welcome intensity, with performers using the environment to create chaotic, unpredictable encounters.
While the technical scares were solid, the lighter cast reduced the consistency of the frights throughout the walkthrough. More performers and sustained character interactions could help bridge those quieter stretches and maintain tension from classroom to classroom.
🔪 Sharpening the Scare
Even the most terrifying school has room for improvement! Here are a few opportunities to help The Final Bell graduate to the next level:
Build the experience beyond the classroom! With a relatively secluded location and shorter walkthrough, consider expanding the exterior entertainment with additional atmosphere, roaming characters, and perhaps a food truck to encourage guests to linger.
Bring in more bodies (we mean students)! Additional actors would help fill quieter scenes, reduce the need for performers to cover multiple positions, and create a more consistently energetic experience.
Make the blackout even more disorienting! Where permitted by fire codes and accessibility requirements, consider incorporating tighter, twisting passageways to extend the maze and increase suspense. Additional low-frequency audio effects could further enhance the sensory experience.
Clarify the two-attraction format. The midway break is a practical solution for improving group spacing, but consider presenting the experience as one continuous haunt with an intermission rather than two separate attractions unless each offers a more distinct experience.
Fill out the classrooms! Continue developing scenic details, environmental props, and set dressing to make the lighter rooms feel more complete and immersive.
Keep growing the experience! Expanded merchandise, additional exterior entertainment, and a longer walkthrough would all help increase the overall value of a visit.

📚 The Book Man: Easily one of the coolest costume concepts we've seen! His ability to blend into the bookshelf before springing to life was both visually spectacular and genuinely startling. An unforgettable character!
🏀 The Basketball Player: This guy brought some SERIOUS school spirit! Bouncing off the surroundings, delivering lively banter, and bringing nonstop energy, he helped make the gymnasium one of the most entertaining scenes of the night.
👩🏫 The Opening Teacher: Climbing across desks, getting in guests' faces, and delivering excellent dialogue, this unhinged educator wasted no time establishing that class was going to be anything but ordinary!
🍎 The Roaming Teacher: Fantastic makeup, a creepy costume, and entertaining guest interactions made this character a standout before we even entered the attraction. Definitely not someone we'd want assigning homework!
💀 Final Thoughts
The Final Bell Haunted Schoolhouse has plenty of potential, and we're excited to see where this team takes it! The property's natural schoolhouse setting, impressive character designs, and excellent use of lighting and sound provide a strong foundation. When the performers and technical effects come together, the results can be wonderfully unsettling!
This year's visit didn't quite capture the same consistent energy we experienced last season, largely due to the lighter cast and shorter overall experience. However, the creativity and passion behind the attraction remain evident.
With additional performers, more developed environments, and expanded entertainment outside the walkthrough, The Final Bell could become an even more compelling destination for Maryland haunt fans.
